ISABELLE FESQUET “The Spanish Republican exile of the winter of 1939 went down in history as La Retirada. Many of these Republicans arrived in camps in the south of France. After interviewing descendants of these exiles, Isabelle tells us the story of three lives: Octavio, who spent a year on the beaches of Argelès; Maria, born in France and who returned to Spain in 1931 before once again embarking on the road to exile; and finally Teresa, a courageous mother, separated from her husband at the border. She was sent to Belle-Île with her six children, where they stayed for a while before being forced to leave again, tossed about by fate.
