Unusual Island Life is a series of staged tableaux created in 2021 on Belle-Île-en-Mer, the island where Aurélia Faudot grew up between the seasons. With the participation of islanders, cast in roles connected to their own stories, she transposes ordinary gestures of daily island life into familiar landscapes rendered inappropriate. This incongruity creates friction: the habitual becomes incongruous, and everyone, whether participant or spectator, is confronted with the gaze of others....
This incongruity creates friction: the habitual becomes incongruous, and everyone, whether participant or spectator, is confronted with the gaze of others. During the photo shoots, the models are visible in action and already subject to the scrutiny of others. The exhibition of the photographs on the island extends this dynamic, confronting them once again with the judgment of their peers. For the viewer, these images shift the perception of the ordinary and question the importance given to the gaze of others, while reintroducing the possibility of being surprised by what seemed familiar.
