Revisit this entire flourishing period of sardine fishing and the factories established on Belle-Île with Geneviève Tinchant, a history enthusiast, guide, and curator at the Citadel of Belle-Île-en-Mer. After an introduction on the widespread adoption of sardine fishing on Belle-Île in the 18th and 19th centuries, I address the evolution of fish preservation methods for export. Then, I use the Port Guen cannery as a case study: its creation, its technical development, and its workforce.
