The Belle-Île-en-Mer Community of Municipalities is partnering with the Le Petit Bal Perdu cinema to offer screenings of the films "The Pickers" and "Manger pour vivre" (Eating to Live). These screenings will be followed by a discussion with the audience, in the presence of representatives from the Restos du Cœur (Food Banks) of Belle-Île. Synopsis of "The Pickers" - 30 min. In southern Italy, Seydou, originally from Mali, picks oranges. He has no contract and is paid per crate of oranges harvested. He lives in a shack he built himself in a camp without running water or electricity. "The Pickers" is a journey through several European agricultural regions: 1 million migrants work in European fields. These pickers are the mobile workforce that fills our shopping baskets in supermarkets. They move from one harvest field to another. The film adds a bitter taste to what we have on our table every day: our daily fruits and vegetables come from the exploitation of human beings. Synopsis "Eating to Live" - 52' In 2025 in France, one in ten people struggles to feed themselves every day. Food aid has become commonplace. Despite its humanitarian mission, it is overwhelmed by the scale of the problem. Faced with this situation, a group of associations in Montpellier created a shared food bank. For a year, the film follows the first draft of a food security system. 400 people contribute according to their means and all receive the same amount to eat healthily. Above all, they take back control of their lives. Through four poignant portraits, the film offers a reflection on the right to food.
