Le Grand Phare

It's a granite tower, 52 meters high and 92 meters above sea level, adjoining the technical buildings and the keepers' living quarters. The tower was built between 1826 and 1835, based on a design by the physicist Augustin Fresnel, chief engineer and secretary of the Lighthouse Commission in Paris. Its range is approximately 27 nautical miles, making it one of the most powerful in Europe. It is state property and has been listed as a Historical Monument since May 23, 2011. Climb it! After 247 steps, discover the most breathtaking view of Belle-Île. On the ground floor, a permanent exhibition explores various themes: the administration and history of lighthouses, the keepers' profession, navigational aids, and natural areas. Visit to the Grand Phare: 20 minutes + self-guided tour of the exhibition (last entry 30 minutes before closing). Limited places available. No reservation required.
