The tower was built from 1826 to 1835, based on the design of physicist Augustin Fresnel, chief engineer and secretary of the Lighthouse Commission in Paris. Its range is approximately 27 miles, making it one of the most powerful in Europe. It is a state property and has been classified as a Historic Monument since May 23, 2011. Climb it! After 247 steps, discover the most breathtaking view of Belle-Île. On the ground floor, a permanent exhibition covers various themes: the administration and history of lighthouses, the profession of lighthouse keepers, beaconing, and natural spaces. Visit of the Grand Phare: 20 minutes + self-guided tour of the exhibition (last entry 30 minutes before closing). Limited number of places. No reservation required.
