In 1859, the Minister of the Navy decided to build 135 signal towers along the coasts of France based on the same plan. In 1860, the Navy approved the construction of four signal towers along the Belle-Île coast. Erected the following year, these signal towers are those of Talut, Er-Hastellic, Arzic, and Taillefer. Today, Talut is the only active signal tower on Belle-Île. Taillefer and Arzic are privately owned. As for Er-Hastellic, its ruins can be seen near the Apothecary's. Unlike these 3 semaphores, the silhouette of the Talut was modernized in 1987.
