By Maxime Paz, PhD in Art History, specializing in 19th and 20th-century sculpture. Auguste Rodin fabricated a past of precocious genius for himself, while his beginnings were particularly difficult. Based on my own academic research, I wish to reveal the trajectory of one of the greatest sculptors of his time, who knew how to turn his weaknesses to his advantage. This tortuous path seems to me far more interesting than the legend he created, because it transforms shame into energy, weakness into strength, and failure into reward. It is through this new lens that I propose to explore his life by focusing on his most emblematic works.
