Lyrique en Mer : Opéra : Didon et Enée de Purcell

Libretto by Nahum Tate. Opera in three acts and a Prologue. The action takes place in Carthage, shortly after the Trojan War. Queen Dido welcomes the shipwrecked Trojan hero Aeneas, they fall in love and prepare for marriage. An evil magician, wants the fall of Dido and Carthage. She dispatches a Spirit who, in the guise of Mercury, enjoins the prince to continue his journey to create the empire of Rome. Aeneas announces his departure to the queen. Out of her, Dido sends him away and kills himself.
