Accommodations "Etape Rando Bretagne" (hiking stopover brittany)


Belle-Ile-en-Mer, located between sea and sky and really appreciated by walkers, is ideal for hiking. With its 85km of marked paths bordering the Atlantic littoral GR 340, hikers have the pleasure to admire authentic, rich landscapes and views of the sea.

We estimate you will need 4 to 5 days, by foot, to walk all around the island. You can find the plan of the coastal paths with the kilometres travelled between each point on the map of the island.

For the hikes, 17 itineraries lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes up to 3 hours and 20 minutes are available to discover the variety of Belle-Ile’s magnificent landscapes. You can find them in the hiking guide which includes 17 hiking trails with the kilometres, the level of difficulties, the time as well as some practical advice. This guide is sold at the Tourist information centre for 5€, you can order it (though you will need to add 3,36€ for the shipping costs) and pay with your credit card. Here are the steps for a hike around the island of 5 days:

1st hiking day: Le Palais/ Pointe des Poulains (18,3 km – about 4 hour and 35 minutes)

2nd hiking day: Pointe des Poulains / Port Coton (21,3 km – about 5 hour and 20 minutes)

3rd hiking day: Port Coton/ Herlin (12,8 km – about 3 hours and 30 minutes)

4th hiking day: Herlin / Locmaria (16,2 km – about 4 hours and 30 minutes)

5th hiking day: Locmaria / Le Palais (16 km – about 4 hours and 30 minutes)

You can also reduce the kilometers and the hikes and make your stay longer. To help you with your decision, you can find the coastal paths with the kilometres travelled between each point on the map of the island. 


Be aware that some accommodation you can book for an overnight stay such as cottages, hotels, guest houses, campsites and hostels are certified Etape Rando Bretagne. These establishments, located near the coastal path, are willing to offer adapted equipment and services to hikers. They can offer you a specific all-inclusive stay, the Pack Rando, with a service for your luggage, a proper restoration, a cleaning area, several transport possibilities and some advice on the possible hikes.

You wish to do the GR 340 (hiking trail) and enjoy the landscapes fully without struggling with your luggage ? Belle-île is a land with a rich historical heritage and where a lot of artists express themselves ! In that sense, all through the parcours you will be able to add to your hike some cultural visit (Museum of the Citadelle Vauban and the Aiguade Vauban in Le Palais, The fort of Sarah Bernhardt at the Pointe des Poulains, the Grand Phare – lighthouse at the Aiguilles de Port Coton).
